7 Steps to Keep the Mums for Next Year!

Winter is now close at hand sending your chrysanthemum (know as ‘mums’ to everyone else) into hiding for the long cold winter.  We have 7 steps that you can follow to winterize your mums, keeping them alive to enjoy next year.

  1. Plant into the ground or move container to sheltered area, such as by the house or garage.
  2. Leave stems on until mid spring.
  3. Protect with leaves, straw, or mulch.
  4. Water occasionally during winter on warmer days- especially important if no rain or snow.
  5. In April, prune stems to 3 inches above ground, you should start to see new green life under them.
  6. Water and feed during spring and summer months.
  7. To make nice, round plants for fall, pinch new growth until July 4.

Following these 7 easy steps will keep your mums alive and allow you to enjoy them for years to come.
